Sure Do Hate The Weeds
I was sitting on my front steps when the days' work was done,
Drinking a cup of coffee, enjoying the Evening Sun.
A little friend of mine came strolling up the walk,
Said, if you're not real busy I sure would like to talk.

She showed me her little hand and said would you look at that,
Picking roses for my mom, I got that awful scratch.
Then she drew my attention to the Band Aid on her knee,
Said, don't know where daddy is, but mama sure loves me.

Chorus

Don't know where my daddy is, he just up and went away.
If he cares anything at all, I guess he'll come and see me some day.
Mama's always worked real hard to try to meet our needs.
I'm thankful for the flowers of love; I sure do hate the weeds.

She picked up a dandelion recently gone to seed,
Blew it gentle to the wind, then she wished it God speed.
Said, that's how it was when God sowed all the seeds,
He made a lot of flowers grow, he sure didn't plant the weeds.
